Takasagoya Ryokan is gelegen in Zao Onsen, op 2 minuten lopen van skigebied Zao Onsen, en biedt accommodatie met gratis WiFi en gratis privéparkeren. The staff was very kind, as expected from a family owned ryokan. The bath area is small, but you schedule your personal bath time. Food is incredible, a must try when visiting Zao. Location is near the main attractions, like the cable car is reachable by walking. Lots of nearby onsens.

Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya heeft natuurlijke warmwaterbronnen en ligt op 15 minuten lopen van het JR-station Tendo en op 50 km van Sendai. Alles wat je kan verwachten als je een Ryokan boekt, krijg je hier in het hotel. Vanaf het ontvangst, de begeleiding naar je kamer, je grote kamer, de kleine maar perfecte onsen met binnen en buiten bad. En wat dan gezegd over het traditionele ontbijt, zowel een lust voor het oog als voor de smaakpapillen. Het hotel ligt centraal tussen Ginzan onsen en Zao onsen.

Featuring free property-wide WiFi, a spa centre and a seasonal outdoor pool, Matsushima Ichinobo offers accommodation in Matsushima. The room (I had the basic level option) was gigantic for Japan, with a huge picture window and a view to die for. To say I was blown away upon arrival would be an understatement. The hotel is spacious and uncrowded. I suspect it caters almost exclusively to the Japanese market so some instructions were on rather informal notes, or simply only in Japanese. The rate is breakfast and dinner included but also includes unlimited alcohol from 7pm and coffee/tea/refreshments all day with an icecream bar in the late morning and afternoon. The silence and sleep quality was superb as was the bathroom with shower.

Het Tamonkan wordt omgeven door heilige bergen en ongerepte natuur en is gevestigd in een historisch gebouw in Japanse stijl. U wordt hier verwelkomd met gratis thee en lekkers. I kept receiving recommendations for Tamonkan on Booking.com and Google Maps while searching for accommodation in Shonai. Despite being hesitant to book due to its distance from the airport and the specific location we needed for that weekend, I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! Our stay at Tamonkan exceeded all expectations. It was our first experience staying at a Ryokan since we moved to Japan earlier this year. The place was exceptionally clean, and the food was simply amazing! The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet, and it was only a 10-minute walk to the entrance of Mt.Haguro, with cozy local shops where we could grab lunch and snacks. (By the way, I highly recommend booking a room with breakfast and dinner to save yourself the hassle.) I had concerns about the shared Sento, but even on busier days, I never had to share the bath with other in-house guests. It was a splendid experience, and we're already planning to stay at Tamonkan again the next time we visit Shonai.

Miyamaso Takamiya ligt op 10 minuten lopen van de kabelbaan Zao Sky en beschikt over 9 natuurlijke warmwaterbronnen. Stunning historical ryokan with a number of historic and new onsens. The rooms are renovated in a gorgeous traditional Japanese style and the meal was exceptional. The chef kindly catered for my allergy as I advised in advance. Staying at this ryokan was an exceptional experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Zao Onsen.

Shikitei Morioka TsunagiOnsen ligt op 7 minuten lopen van het Gosho-meer en biedt gratis WiFi en warmwaterbronnen binnen en buiten. It is a very convenient that there’s indoor spring pool. The food was very good, we stayed 2 nights, and they changed the menu. I even think they upgraded. I love traditional spring hotel. The service is person to person feel very warm.

Komatsukan Kofu-tei ligt recht tegenover de baai van Matsushima, en biedt accommodatie met gratis vast internet. Very nice view and staff. The arrangement of after check-in service brings a wonderful experience.

Yasuragino Yado -Iyashino Yu- ligt in Kitakami, op 42 km van tempel Chusonji, en biedt accommodatie met gratis WiFi en gratis privéparkeren. I didn't take the breakfast, so I can't comment on it. Location was good for me since I wanted to walk everyday.
